Time Magazine dubbed Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as Underachiever
Leading American magazine Time on the cover of its latest Asian edition dubbed Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the Underachiever. The magazine which hit the stand on 16 July 2012 carried three stories including the cover story to describe the gloomy economic scenario in the country. The magazine insisted that Indian Prime Minister has been starkly unable to reverse the pessimistic economic environment in the country.

Tata Power signed a long term agreement with Indonesian firm
Tata Power on 20 July 2012 signed an agreement with Indonesian firm PT Antang Gunung Meratus (AGM) to secure fuel for its thermal power plants. AGM is the 100 percent subsidiary of the Indonesian company PT Baramulti Sukses Sarana (BSSR). Tata Power already has 30 percent equity stake in Indonesian two major coal producer, PT Kaltima Prima Coal and PT Arutmin Indonesia. Apart from this, Tata Power’s 100 percent subsidiary Khopoli Investments Limited also inked an agreement acquired 26 percent stake in BSSR. It is likely to hold about 1 billion tonnes of coal in South and East Kalimantan in Indonesia.

US House of Representative voted to cut the US Aid to Pakistan by 650 Million Dollar
The US House of Representative on 19 July 2012 voted unanimously to cut the US aid to Pakistan by 650 million dollar. The amendment to cut the aid was proposed by Republican Congressman Ted Poe. The proposal which got the approval of the house in a voice vote will now be tabled in Senate for its approval.

Planning Commission sanctioned 57800 Crore Rupees as Annual Plan for UP
Marking an increase of whopping 23 percent in annual financial allocation for UP, the Planning Commission of India allocated 57800 crore rupees to the state for fiscal year 2012-13. Besides, it also approved a 20000 crore rupees additional funding for centre-sponsored schemes in the state. The Planning Commission had sanctioned 47000 crore rupees to UP during financial year 2011-12.

India decided to send 81 Athletes to participate in London Olympics 2012
India finalised on 14 July 2012 to send its largest ever group of 81 athletes to participate in 13 sports events for London Olympics 2012. The London Olympics 2012 is scheduled from 27 July 2012 to 12 August 2012. In the last 2008 Olympic in Beijing, India had sent 57 athletes who had participated in 12 major events. The Indian team includes 58 men and 23 women. The Indian team is likely to participate in 54 major events. The events include Weightlifting, Wrestling, Rowing, Table Tennis, Swimming, Shooting, Hockey, Judo, Badminton, Boxing, Archery, and Athletics.

Russian Soyuz Spacecraft blasted-off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan
A Russian Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft carrying three astronauts including Sunita Williams, the Indian-American astronaut, took-off for the international space station on 15 July 2012 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The Soyuz launch marked the 37th anniversary of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project that opened the door to US-Russian cooperation in space science. The Soyuz spacecraft is likely to remain docked to the International Space Station throughout Expedition 32 to serve as an emergency escape vehicle.

India, Singapore Signed Agreements and MoU in New Delhi on 11 July 2012
ndia and Singapore signed three key bilateral agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 11 July 2012, New Delhi. The agreements were signed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong. While the MoU was signed by Indian Labour Minister Malikarjun Kharge and Singapore Education Minister Heng Swee Keat. Key Highlights of the Agreements/MoU Both the countries, in the memorandum of understanding have decided to renew the bilateral arrangement between the Air Forces on joint training. The military training agreement was signed between Indian Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma and Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Defence Chiang Chie Foo. It stated that the military training that Indian armed forces extend to their Singaporean counterparts shall by all means continue. The other agreement focused on expansion of joint ventures, technological collaboration both bilaterally and in third countries. The agreement also stated that Singapore is all game for investment in education and health. Both the countries in the agreement also decided to pin on defence cooperation.
