Khobar lies on the eastern coast of a tip of land stretching out into the Persian Gulf, forming a large metropolitan and industrial area, with about 1.2 million inhabitants, together with Dammam, Qatif and Dhahran. Khobar serves as one of the service centres for the urban zone, with numerous modern malls, shops and restaurants along the wide boulevards. Fishing is still of some importance, while the oasis' original agriculture has almost totally disappeared. Khobar has excellent connections with other urban centres of Saudi Arabia by highways, and is also linked to Bahrain with a causeway. In addition to Saudi nationals, does Khobar have large contingents of non-Western expatriates, especially Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Filipinos. Like no likes.
