Russian government on 18 September 2012 declassified its diamond reserves formed after a 7 kilometer wide asteroid stroked the graphite rich area of Russia, about 35 million years ago. The most valuable secret of Russian Cold War was kept hidden from the rest of the world for more than five decades. The reserve was discovered by the Russians during the mid 1960s.

With a combined market size of more than 450 million students and growth rates of 10-15 per cent expected over the next decade, education is one of the largest service sectors in India. In fact, it is the largest issuer of credit cards in the country with a customer base of 5.60 million as of 31 March, 2012.

The title of =terrorists‘ assigned to Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) by United States has been uplifted on 6 September 2012. Maoist part was Specially Designated with the title of Terrorist Entity under =Executive Order 13224‘. US also withdrew its status as terrorist organisation from the Terrorist Exclusion List (TEL) under the Immigration and Nationality Act. This decision came in favor of the party after six years long wait, since the time it signed peace treaty to make its entry to open politics.

indal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) on September 5, 2012 bought CIC Energy Corp of Canada for Rs 650 crore. CIC has coal mines in Botswana, Africa, with reserves of six billion tonnes. The deal was concluded through Jindal BVI Ltd (JBVI), a subsidiary of Jindal Steel and Power Limited. JBVI and CIC now be merged and delisted from the Canadian stock exchange in a month‘s time.

On 5 September 2012, The World Bank appointed Kaushik Basu, as its chief economist and senior vice president. Basu, an Indian national and a Cornell University professor most recently served as chief economic adviser of the India's Union Ministry of Finance. He has to take over as the chief economist at the World Bank on October 1.

Former Prime Minister of India, Inder Kumar Gujral, the head of unsteady coalition government in 1990s, died at the age of 92 following brief illness on 30 November 2012. He served as the 12th Prime Minister of India from April 1997 to March 1998 in second United Front government following the resignation of HD Devegodda. Gujral was a Rajya Sabha Member twice from 1964 to 1976 and a member of the Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991. He became a member of Rajya Sabha in 1992. He was re-elected to Lok Sabha from Jalandhar in Punjab as an independent with help from Akali Dal in 1998. It is important to note that he was the Rajya Sabha member during his tenure as the Indian Prime Minister. He had written Matters of Discretion in the form of Autobiography

Sebastian Vettel of Germany, the Red Bull driver became youngest triple champion in the history of Formula One on 25 November 2012 by finishing 6th behind Jenson Button in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
