Recipe for Shab Daig

Ingredients

  • Mutton 1/2 kg
  • Turnip 1/2 kg
  • Carrots 2
  • Onions 3 sliced
  • Green chilies 4
  • Lemons 4
  • Tomatoes 4
  • Fresh coriander 1 bunch
  • Yogurt 1 cup
  • Oil 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • All spice powder 1 tsp
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder 2 tbsp
  • Roasted flour 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • For Kofta:
  • Beef mince 250 grams
  • Bread slices 2
  • Ground cumin powder 1 tsp
  • All spice powder 1 tsp
  • To Serve:
  • Fresh coriander (chopped) as required
  • Lemon juice of 4
  • Green chillies 4

Cooking Directions

In a cooking pot, add mutton, 2 cups water, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, salt to taste and oil and cook.

Chop each turnip into two and carrot into small pieces.

Chop beef mince, bread slices, ground white cumin and all spice powder.

Form the mix into shape of small balls (koftas). Leave for a while.

Cook on medium heat.

When mutton is tender and water dries, add a cup of yogurt.

Shallow fry turnip, carrot and kofta and add to mutton mix.

Also add tomatoes and sauté.

When you see oil separating from the remaining gravy, add 2 cups of luke warm water and 1 tsp all spice powder.

Cover and on low flame.

Dissolve roasted flour in some water and pour the mix into the gravy while stirring.

Serve hot with coriander garnishing, green chilies an d lemon juice.
