Recipe for Kathiawari Cholay

Ingredients

  • 1 cup black chickpeas
  • 2 potatoes
  • 1 onion, finely cut
  • 2 tomatoes, finely cut
  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves, finely cut
  • 15 leaflets of curry leaves
  • 1 – 1 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon all spices powder
  • 1/2 cup tamarind juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 4-5 green chilies, finely cut

Cooking Directions

First of all soak black chickpea for 6-7 hours.

Then boil the black chickpea for 5-6 hours.


Boil potatoes and cut into small cubes.

Now heat oil and fry onion in it, when it gets light brown, add curry leaves and garlic paste in it.

Saute it for 1 minute and then add tomatoes, chilies and all spices.

Saute the mixture for 1-2 minutes and add black chickpea and potatoes in the mixture.

Now cover the lid of the sauce pan and leave it for 20 minutes with little amount of water.

Then add tamarind juice in it and then cook it for 5 minutes.
Now spicy cholay are ready. Dish it out and garnish it with coriander leaves.

You can enhance the taste by adding papri and yogurt over the cholas.
